Tønsberg municipality uses this technology to provide their citizens with relevant, personalised and direct information – at the right time and place. The solution provides the foundation for sending relevant push messages based on location to everyone who has downloaded the app and given consents to notifications.
To search for information, or having to ask somebody can be both time consuming and add friction in a given situation. During a pandemic, the need for practical and accessible information proves even greater.
As part of their Smart City approach, Tønsberg municipality uses the Citizen App from Innocode containing Kogenta’s SDK.

The solution provides the foundation for sending relevant push messages based on location to everyone who has downloaded the app and given consents to notifications.
Vital information
The municipality recently installed beacons (wireless units that transmit accurate location-based information) at strategic locations used for Covid-19 testing and vaccination.
The locations are:
- Tønsberg emergency room
- The vaccine station
- The test station
- The mobile test station
The purpose is to reach out with important, timely and relevant information. Just when and where it is needed.
As people arrive they receive a push message , tailored to that specific location For the test stations they receive input on when to expect test results, and how to conduct once testing is done.
This specific feature in the Citizen App provides the municipality flexibility of more targeted information sharing and relevant communication with their citizens.
– Tønsberg municipality uses new technology to improve the experience when citizens visit our Covid-19 test and vaccination locations. This is especially important in a potentially stressful situation.
– It’s really quite easy. A push message is automatically sent out when a person is in proximity of the beacon, without any use of municipality resources, says Kristian Jahren Øvretveit, Head of Communications in Tønsberg municipality.
